Terms of Service

Effective: May 2026

1. Service Overview

Connecta is a closed-circle learning platform for students aged 6-18 in EU schools. It provides:

  • Peer learning in small, moderated groups (Circles)
  • AI coaching via Socrat (curriculum-aligned learning support)
  • Safety monitoring via GoodTalk (real-time content analysis)
  • School integration (class rosters, teacher oversight)

2. Who Can Use Connecta

Students

  • Ages 6-18, enrolled in a school using Connecta
  • Must have parental/school consent (verifiable via email confirmation)
  • Responsible for following community guidelines (no bullying, inappropriate content, etc.)

Parents

  • Receive notifications about student activity flagged by GoodTalk
  • Can view Socrat's guidance approach but not raw peer conversations
  • Can request account closure at any time

Schools & Teachers

  • Can manage class rosters and student onboarding
  • Receive safety escalations but do not monitor all chat
  • Cannot export or repurpose student learning data

3. Acceptable Use

You agree NOT to:

  • Share personally identifiable information (real names, phone numbers, addresses) outside your verified circle
  • Post bullying, threats, hate speech, or explicit content
  • Attempt to access other users' accounts or data
  • Use Connecta for commercial purposes or spam
  • Deliberately bypass GoodTalk or safety controls
  • Pretend to be a different age, school, or person

4. Socrat AI Coach

Socrat is designed to:

  • Ask, never answer: Guides thinking via questions, not homework solutions
  • Follow curriculum: Trained on curriculum frameworks, not current student data
  • Support learning: Helps students think through problems independently

Socrat will NOT:

  • Provide direct answers to homework
  • Learn or improve from individual student conversations
  • Share conversations with commercial third parties
  • Be used for assessment, grading, or student profiling

5. GoodTalk Safety System

GoodTalk uses AI analysis (models from OpenAI, Google and Anthropic) to detect harmful content before it's sent. It flags:

  • Bullying, harassment, threats
  • Inappropriate images or exploitation signals
  • Self-harm indicators or mental health crises

If your message is flagged:

  • Low risk: You see a suggestion to rephrase; no penalty
  • High risk: Parent/teacher notified; conversation may be paused
  • Serious risk: Escalated to school safeguarding lead

GoodTalk is NOT:

  • A surveillance tool,teachers don't read all chat
  • Punitive,suggestions help you communicate better
  • Always perfect,false positives happen; you can appeal

6. School Integration

Schools can:

  • Import class rosters for easy onboarding
  • Designate teachers as safety leads
  • Set communication preferences for parents

Schools will NOT:

  • Monitor individual peer conversations
  • Grade based on Connecta activity
  • Export student learning data for commercial use
  • Use Socrat interactions for student profiling

7. Intellectual Property

Students retain ownership of their work and ideas shared on Connecta. By using Connecta, you grant us license to:

  • Store and display your messages within your circle
  • Analyze content for safety (GoodTalk)
  • Anonymize and aggregate data for service improvement

We will NOT:

  • Sell your writing, artwork, or ideas
  • Use your content for commercial training data
  • Share identifiable work outside your school/circle

8. Limitation of Liability

Connecta is provided "as is." We are not liable for:

  • Loss of data (you should back up important work)
  • Temporary service interruptions or downtime
  • Harm caused by peer interactions (though we try to prevent it via GoodTalk)
  • Indirect damages or lost opportunity costs

We ARE liable for:

  • Breach of your privacy/data protection rights
  • Willful misconduct or gross negligence
  • Failure to respond to serious safety incidents

9. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms to reflect legal changes or service improvements. We will notify you at least 30 days before changes take effect. Continued use constitutes acceptance.

10. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

These terms are governed by EU law. Disputes will be resolved through:

  1. Good-faith negotiation (30 days)
  2. Mediation if negotiation fails
  3. EU arbitration or courts if mediation fails
